**Why study this subject?**
The massive growth in the sports sector means there's increased demand for quality graduates who can demonstrate both knowledge and experience of working within the sports industry.
**Why study at Buckinghamshire New University?**
We always strive to give you ‘real world’ experience which will best prepare you for stepping into your future career. In our course, you’ll have the opportunity to engage in real marketing and agency briefs meaning you'll be learning in a uniquely practical way from day one.
We offer our students access to the incredible professional network we’ve spent many years cultivating. You’ll interact with lots of different people within the sports industry throughout your course, including athletes and professional governing bodies.
What’s more, with our campus being so close to London, we have some amazing opportunities for our students to complete placements and work experience with top sports and marketing organisations.
One of the most important things about our Sports courses is that we are the only university in the UK to focus on disability sport, an area of increasing importance in the industry.
**What facilities can I use?**
Students of this course can utilise our state-of-the-art gym and human performance laboratory, home to an indoor three-lane running track that has 3D motion-capture technology.
The lab is also equipped for assessing a range of physiological, biomechanical and psychological parameters meaning you’ll always have lots of choice when it comes to designing a research experiment.
**What will I study?**
With a strong business studies foundation, this course will take you through the targeting and positioning of brands, paying attention to issues like market competition and saturation.
You’ll explore sport commercialisation through broadcast, sponsorship and branding arrangements and cover the management of digital media, exploring the role it has to play in this sports marketing. You’ll look at how to measure marketing campaign effectiveness using market research techniques and digital analytics.
You’ll develop important transferable skills in business management and spend time looking at the impact of emerging markets and the process companies use to explore the potential of moving into international markets.
We’ll also cover strategic sport management and finance plus the regulation of sport business – crucial parts of any marketer’s role, whatever the industry context.
**How will I be taught and assessed?**
You’ll work towards two qualifications at the same time on this course - we have CIM modules embedded within our degree modules so once you’ve graduated you can register with the CIM.
You’ll go to CIM events, work with industry leaders and, joining students from our other Business degrees, you’ll get vital experience while developing your business skills.
You’ll be taught via lectures, interactive seminars, workshops, small group activities and classroom debates. Every stage of the programme is also supported by e-learning material.
You’ll be assessed mostly through coursework and ‘real-world’ sport business activities like designing, implementing and evaluating marketing solutions. Here, you’ll focus on activities such as applying for funding, appraising financial performance and preparing marketing strategies.
In your final year you’ll conduct a research dissertation meaning you’ll be able to explore an area of your choice in depth with the help of your personal tutor.
