Employers want graduates who are not just academically qualified but are also work-ready with professional skills in management and leadership. Our BA (Hons) in Business Management helps equip you with the skills to become a confident and successful manager.
We believe in hands-on experiences to build your confidence for the next step in your career. Our smaller, more intimate class sizes, ensure tutors can give our students one-to-one teaching and support. You’ll also work with real businesses who want your advice, and you’ll learn from your own research.
**Why study at Buckinghamshire New University?**
We can’t predict the future; but we can give you the skills and knowledge to help you become a rising talent within business, government or a non-profit organisation. We see it as our responsibility to encourage your curiosity, confidence and ability to adapt.
To make sure you have the latest knowledge, our academic staff keep themselves up-to-date. Most come from industry, and our links can give you practical experience of business life. You'll also benefit from guest lecturers, who can demonstrate the relevance of the teaching in a business context.
A key feature of the programme is to blend both academic study and skills development in order to enhance your employability. We have a strong emphasis on flexibility, teamwork and creative solutions.
Our students are asked to develop solutions for a wide-range of businesses. This allows you to gain real-world, hands-on experience while businesses benefit from having dedicated consultants to carry out research and offer advice tailored to their needs.
Some of the large companies we've worked with include:
- Dreams
- Softcat
- Enterprise-rent-a-car
- Sacla’
- Dow Chemicals
- NHS.
We've also worked with local businesses such as Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and KVA Digital.
**What will I study?**
On this programme you'll develop key skills, such as empathy, problem solving and creativity, which will ensure you're well placed to enter the employment market. These skills are increasingly important in a world with technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are now fulfilling key business activities.
In year one, you'll learn about the fundamentals that provide a sound basis for your study of business management. Core modules include finance, marketing, contemporary business environments, HR, leadership and management skills.
Year two, you'll gain a more strategic understanding of business issues, and in particular work with real clients to support you in implementing changes to their business.
Final year, you'll be expected to integrate, apply and evaluate the knowledge you've gained through independent study on your dissertation or consultancy project. There is an ongoing emphasis on leadership skills, particularly within a changing business environment.
The dissertation or a consultancy project will be a key focus in your final year and will allow you to specialise on your area of interest.
**How will I be taught and assessed?**
This course is offered as a four-year programme, including an initial Foundation Year. The Foundation Year will allow you to develop your academic study skills and build confidence in your abilities, identifying your own strengths and development needs for progression onto an undergraduate degree.
Chartered Management Institute (CMI) refer frequently to ‘accidental managers’ within business; those who've been promoted due to competence in one role but who are not trained to be managers. By focusing on this element within our degree, we'll ensure that you've started to develop management and leadership skills in readiness for the workplace.
The course focuses on the ability to think critically and will enable you to analyse and evaluate solutions to complex, real-life problems. We'll help you understand contemporary management theories but, we'll also give you the opportunity to apply and integrate that knowledge in live projects.
