This joint award programme provides various opportunities for you to apply core psychology knowledge within a corporate setting. The course enables you to study business and combine it with the study of human behaviour.
From developmental to cognitive study, psychology is a fascinating subject. It is potentially made even more fascinating by applying it in a business environment, such as consumer and organisational psychology. It’s about bringing the study of human behaviour to practice in a hands-on and meaningful way.
Our programme will help you gain applied and employable skills that will help you in future roles within human resources management, executive leadership or advertising and marketing communications.
**Why study this subject?**
How do customers think? What impacts our choices of brands and our decisions about where and when to shop? How do we motivate employees?
If these questions interest you, then Business and Psychology could be the right course for you.
**Why study at Buckinghamshire New University?**
With smaller, more intimate class sizes, as well as experienced and dedicated academics, we are able to give our students one-to-one teaching and support. You'll have the opportunity to collaborate on projects and live briefs with students from other business management and psychology degree programmes, gaining the practical and transferable skills you need for your career.
This programme is suitable for students who are interested in studying Psychology, but who do not see themselves working in a therapy or counselling role but more of an Occupational Psychology route, maybe working in hospitals, prisons or schools.
This programme is also designed to inspire and facilitate the development of a variety of desirable, transferable skills that will enhance employability in any future career, particularly those valuing deeper interactions with people. Such skills include communication, numeracy, teamwork, critical thinking, computing, independent learning and more.
**What will I study?**
Your curriculum will cover subject specific modules in both psychology and business. You'll be equipped with relevant transferable skills to better influence and understand how individuals, groups and organisations are motivated as well as how they think and buy.
You'll gain a wide range of skills and competences useful for dealing competently with real-life, practical problems. The course will focus on the ability to think critically and will enable you to analyse and evaluate solutions to complex, real-life problems
This programme will help you gain a thorough grounding in qualitative research methods, which will provide invaluable for your future career. It will also help prepare you for research-based postgraduate study, if you choose to continue your studies following graduation.
**How will I be taught and assessed?**
This course is offered as a four-year programme, including an initial Foundation Year. The Foundation Year will allow you to develop your academic study skills and build confidence in your abilities, identifying your own strengths and development needs for progression onto an undergraduate degree.
Where the Foundation Year is taught at University Campus Aylesbury Vale or Uxbridge all subsequent years will be taught at High Wycombe Campus.
As part of the programme you'll work with actual business clients to help them solve a real-world problem. You'll join two excellent schools in the University and be taught by lecturers from both the Psychology team and BNU Business School.
You'll study business modules which develop knowledge which you'll then apply in real business scenarios. You'll also study the applications of psychology in a wide range of areas, focusing on businesses and organisations.
