The University of Buckingham is: - Home of the two-year degree, the University of Buckingham, based in the South East of England, is ranked 6th for Student Satisfaction in the UK (National Student Survey, 2020). - We are proudly independent and not-for-profit, and offer courses in Allied Health, Business, Computing, Education, Humanities, Law, Medicine, Psychology and Security and Intelligence. Our BSc in Podiatric Medicine is a two and a half-year full time undergraduate programme leading to a professional and academic qualification in podiatric medicine. As a podiatrist, our graduates will work as independent clinicians who will identify and analyse complex health problems linked to the foot and lower limbs and develop preventive and corrective solutions to these problems. The course has wide-ranging career opportunities which include addressing biomechanical and developmental issues in children, aiding and facilitating elderly mobility, treating chronic conditions such as diabetes and arthritis that directly impact the foot and lower limbs and treating and managing lower extremity sports and fitness injuries. The course introduces, in a defined manner, inter-professional learning in both academic and clinical modules. It has, as its central focus, the integration of theory with clinical practice with opportunities for inter-professional learning with other health care professionals to provide a comprehensive, excellent, academic and clinical teaching programme with integration of theory into the clinical practice setting. The clinical placements will span the spectrum of podiatric medicine with experience with patients from various medical / surgical disciplines to ensure a high level of quality practice education for students. **This programme is approved by the HCPC.**

Course Details – Assessment Method

The BSc (Hons.) Podiatric Medicine programme will aim to: Prepare students for the demands of a career in podiatric medicine and the rapidly changing nature of podiatric practice. Allow students to develop a high level of clinical competence, enabling them to meet the requirements of HCPC and be eligible for registration and membership of the professional body in England. To equip students with the necessary knowledge and clinical skills to meet international standards for overseas recognition of the BSc Podiatric Medicine degree in those countries where the BSc is the national standard. Provide a comprehensive, excellent, academic and clinical teaching programme with integration of theory into the clinical practice setting. Provide clinical placements that span the spectrum of podiatric medicine: The clinical teaching programme involves experience with patients from various medical/ surgical disciplines; this ensures a high level of quality practice education for students. Provide a range of clinical placement opportunities within the public and private sectors; offering over 1000 hours of high-quality clinical placements. Provide a student-centred supportive environment in which the students’ knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes are developed and enhanced leading to a high level of clinical competence. Allow opportunity to explore, analyse and critically assess the practice and the role of Podiatric Medicine within local, national and international inter- Professional healthcare settings. This will ensure that the experiences and opportunities in the learning environment are relevant to their future careers and personal development. Prepare students to anticipate, adapt, influence and respond to future changes in service delivery and encourage them to become future educators and leaders of the profession. This preparation is achieved through research strategies, financial, political, and professional and knowledge of management.
