The terms ‘Computer Graphics, Vision and Games’ covers a wide range of topics within the computing industry and the modern world. While computer games are the most well-known aspect of this area, what many people do not know is the underlying complexity of a relatively simple application. In completion of this career-enhancing degree, you will have the opportunity to experience a year in industry, you will gain a firm foundation in computing skills such as programming, software design, data storage, analysis and classification. You will also learn specialised skills in the areas of vision and graphics, and interact with related areas of study such as intelligent agents and mobile computing. At Aberystwyth University, we endeavour to provide you with an exceptional and memorable student experience. By studying for this degree you will enhance your knowledge of all general Computer Science principles and experience the start of your career with our integrated year in industry. This degree is ‘industry standard’ and will give you an advantage when you enter the job market. You will have access to mobile and aerial robots, vision and motion tracking systems, micro-controller systems and laser scanners. This four-year scheme includes an introduction to programming, operating systems and software development. You will then progress to learn database design, machine learning and computer vision to name a few. In the third year, the department will assist you in locating a work placement. This will equip you with the knowledge and understanding to make a meaningful contribution to the workplace. This experience will fuel your motivation for your fourth and final year. Our enthusiastic staff will teach you through the medium of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practicals and individual or group based project work. Employability skills are the core values of our degree. As part of your degree, you will be required to take part in a residential weekend where you and other students will have work in teams to solve problems. This activity will encourage and improve your skills in communication, analysis, time management, independent and group-based working, organisation, implementation, research and technical skills. Industrial Year students may join a second-year residential weekend concentrating on skills to help you find a great placement.
