BCOM is internationally renowned for its uniquely holistic or naturopathic approach to osteopathic education and patient care. The college provides a four-year full-time Undergraduate Masters in Osteopathy degree course that delivers the technical skills and experience required to develop safe and competent graduates who are eligible to register with the General Osteopathic Council and work in the UK as osteopaths. BCOM’s unique naturopathic course means our graduates are also naturopaths upon successful completion of the degree course. Known for the support we provide to students and for the quality of our teaching, BCOM students receive a solid understanding of human anatomy, physiology and nutrition, as well as developing soft tissue and osteopathic techniques. The college was founded in 1936 by Stanley Lief, the renowned naturopathic osteopath who also founded the Champneys spa. Over the years the college has become a sector leader in osteopathic teaching and research. BCOM’s well established osteopathic teaching clinic in Frazer House offers approximately 20,000 patient appointments each year. Naturopathic, or holistic, osteopathy is a combined treatment. Focusing on more than diagnosing and treating the structural and mechanical problems of the body related to the spine and back, the holistic approach lays emphasis on a preventative approach to health promotion by taking into account the patient’s physical make-up, nutritional intake, psycho-social factors and lifestyle. BCOM is noted for its warm and friendly atmosphere. The supportive atmosphere between students and staff is exceptional, providing a close-knit support network for all. The College’s London location is ideal to enjoy all that the capital has to offer. BCOM is situated in elegant Hampstead, one of the city’s most desirable areas, much loved by Londoners for its green spaces, notably Hampstead Heath. Within easy reach of the college are pleasant, affordable areas in which to live, a buzzing multicultural world of cheap eats, health-food shops and international markets. This integrated degree course provides students with 1000 hours of clinical experience whilst also developing key business skills and research experience, enabling our graduates to work in established clinics or to build their own practises. BCOM graduates have pursued successful careers working with athletes, corporate consultancy, university-level teaching, work with animals and medical research.

Some students may have their research published in peer reviewed journals and/or presented at conferences) • Clinical Osteopathic Practice (including Clinical Practice in BCOM’s teaching clinic and Osteopathic Techniques including Cranial techniques)

Students are assessed through a variety of methods: coursework, examinations, presentations, vivas, OSCE, practical and clinical assessments. The teaching offered at BCOM has been given the highest praise at external review (General Osteopathic Council/Quality Assurance Agency). BCOM has a strong research profile which helps inform teaching and learning throughout the curriculum. Research not only aids in teaching at BCOM but evidence based medicine is increasingly required to demonstrate the efficacy of treatments. Year 3 and 4 students undertake a research project which results in a project (dissertation) that is presented as a publishable paper. BCOM clinical students see on average 20% more than the recommended 50 new patients currently recommended by the QAA Benchmark statement on Osteopathy.
