This joint honours degree combines a rigorous training in mathematics and computer science and its applications. Mathematics is the language of the sciences and is of core value in an advanced understanding of computer science. Computer science provides many of the key tools needed to solve the most important and pressing problems of the modern age. The degree is ideal for someone looking to apply themselves in fields as varied as high finance, cryptography, quantum computing, algorithm design, machine learning and data science. In your first year you will study essential, core components of mathematics and computer science, giving you a rigorous foundation for future years. Subsequently, you will have the opportunity to tailor your mathematics and computer science options so that you graduate with a balance of theoretical and practical skills that reflects your interests.

Standard Higher: AAAAA

Access to HE Diploma in Engineering, Engineering Science, Mathematics and Engineering, Science, or Science and Engineering. The 45 graded Level 3 credits must include: at least 30 credits at Distinction and 15 at Merit or above; and at least 15 credits at Distinction in Mathematics, although more is recommended. The Mathematics units taken should include study of calculus, algebra and trigonometry. Plus either A in A-level Mathematics, or achieving the required level in the Bristol School of Mathematics maths test. Advanced Higher: AA in Mathematics and another mathematics-related subject (including Mathematics of Mechanics)

D*D*D in Applied Science or Engineering plus either A in A-level Mathematics, or achieving the required level in the Bristol School of Mathematics maths test.

Requirements are as for A-levels, where you can substitute a non-subject specific grade for the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate at that grade.

Requirements for principal subjects are as for A-level, where D1/ D2 is A*, D3 is A, M1/ M2 is B and M3 is C.

European Baccalaureate offer: 90% overall, with 9.0 in Mathematics and another mathematics-related subject Specified subjects Mathematics-related subjects include Biology; Chemistry; Computer Science; Economics; and Physics. STEP paper achievement may be included as part of an alternative offer.
