Course Summary

This course follows the structure of our MEng Engineering Mathematics degree but gives you the opportunity to spend your third year abroad at an English-speaking university. You can transfer onto this course up until your second year. The first two years provide a background in mathematical analysis, modelling and scientific computation and their application to engineering. These core topics underpin the advanced material that follows. You will spend your third year overseas at one of our partner universities. As well as gaining first-hand exposure to pioneering research, in your final year you will have a wide choice of options from across engineering and mathematics to fit your interests. A major focus of the course and a key strand throughout the curriculum is real-world problem solving, spanning many different application areas from robotics and social media to medicine and environmental modelling. Problems come from our industrial collaborators or address challenges in current research. Working on these case studies, using theory and techniques from your other units, you will develop your mathematical modelling, collaboration and communication skills. A highlight is your final-year project, a highly creative, challenging and enjoyable experience that is excellent preparation for your future career.

Access to HE Diploma in Engineering, Engineering Science, Mathematics and Engineering, Science, or Science and Engineering. The 45 graded Level 3 credits must include: at least 30 credits at Distinction and 15 at Merit or above; and at least 15 credits at Distinction from Mathematics units and at least 12 at Distinction from units in another science subject. The Mathematics units taken should include study of calculus, algebra and trigonometry. Plus A in A-level Mathematics or achieving the required level in the University of Bristol Mathematics Test. DDD in Engineering, plus either A in A-level Mathematics or achieving the required level in the University of Bristol Mathematics Test.

Requirements are as for A-levels, where you can substitute a non-subject specific grade for the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate at that grade.

Requirements for principal subjects are as for A-level, where D1/ D2 is A*, D3 is A, M1/ M2 is B, and M3 is C.

European Baccalaureate offer: 85% overall, with 8.5 in Mathematics.
