Creative arts therapy engages people in the arts to address and support mental, emotional, developmental, and behavioural disorders. The course will integrate a sound understanding of the theoretical principles that underpin therapeutic approaches using creative arts. This full-time course will teach you about therapeutic approaches and the theory behind them. You will explore how a creative approach can be used to support children and young people, older people, people with learning disabilities and those with mental health issues Throughout the course you will work in a practical placement setting in order to gain new skills and enable the integration of theory and practice. Student will be required to have an up to date DBS ( CRB ) Check in place by start of course.

Modules may include: • The Creative Process of Developing Self-Awareness • Creative Group Work and Performance Skills • Understanding the Therapeutic Process • Marketing Creative Arts Projects • Creative Expression with Words (writing/drama) • Creative Expression with Movement Improvisation • Creative Expression with Art Materials • Creative Expression with Music and Sounds • Arts and Health Projects

Assessment is through practical experience and coursework.
