Course Summary

A new opportunity for graduates with a non-midwifery undergraduate degree to enter a career in Midwifery as a registrant with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Midwifery is a unique profession, providing a safe, respectful, caring and personalised service to women and their families from conception, antenatal care, labour and into the postpartum period. Our curriculum is based on a philosophy of active student-centred learning, making use of the real-life context of practice. Problem-Based learning is designed to support your development into an autonomous learner. This transfers well into clinical practice, thereby promoting research-based contemporary care. You will develop into a practitioner who is competent and consistently delivers innovative, effective and excellent care. Professional Accreditation: This course is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as the statutory body and regulator of nursing and midwifery healthcare professions.

In order to meet NMC clinical competency requirements students undertake clinic practice alongside undergraduate students on the BSc (Hons) Midwifery Studies route over the three years. Core theory is also shared with the undergraduate programme, however the MSc programme has bespoke activities to ensure students meet the higher academic level expected in a master's programme. In the final year of the programme your academic study will be undertaken with other postgraduate students, who are in clinical practice and studying part time.
