Teaching and Learning in the Primary Phase with QTS (Top-up)
Bradford College
Teaching and Learning in the Primary Phase with QTS (Top-up)
Course Summary
The BA (Hons) Teaching and Learning in the Primary Phase with QTS (Top-Up) is one of very few top-up qualifications in England designed to enable you to gain qualified teacher status alongside a degree level qualification. This programme ultimately enables you to teach in a primary or Early Years setting. It has been created to build on your previous knowledge and school experience to develop your skill-set and into that of a qualified teacher. You can choose to be trained to teach across one of three nationally recognised routes (3-7 years, 7-11 years, or 5-11 years). It is an innovative combination of teaching and learning that results in a less intensive pathway into teaching than other routes can provide.
**Course details**
This programme is structured so you spend one full day a week in College, during which you will undertake four core 20 credit modules as well as a 40 credit independent study module. The programme has been designed to facilitate you to continue working by spreading the academic load across both years of study.
It encompasses a blended learning approach, combining face to face sessions with online and practical work as appropriate. Course Details - Modules
The degree course is structured so you spend one or two full days a week in college and one day a week in school, which extends to two days in school after the first semester. You will undertake five core 20 credit modules as well as a 40 credit independent study module. Core Modules include: School Experience - this runs throughout the two year programme. Academic oral and written skills, enabling you to engage in and construct reasoned arguments, supported by relevant educational theory and research are also developed. Teaching Primary Mathematics/Developing Primary Language and Literacy/Developing Primary Science - these three modules will be taken in year one and are designed to develop a firm foundation of subject knowledge, skills and understanding with which to underpin effective classroom pedagogy in line with the current National Curriculum. Global Dimensions through the Humanities & Creative Arts - this module takes place in year two and the purpose of this innovative and creative module is to provide you with a comprehensive overview of the scope and nature of the Humanities and Creative Arts across the primary age phases. Action Research - you will begin preparation for this module at the end of year one. The aim of this strategy is to give you an explicit understanding of the requirements of effective educational research and the assessment brief.
