Course Summary

The BA (Hons) Film (top-up) curriculum offers you the freedom to explore your own area of interest within the broad context of Film. Designed to enable you to be well placed to begin a career in film, TV or the wider creative and media industries this demanding course is delivered by academics with a wide range of relevant industry experience. You will be given the opportunity to combine academic investigation with industrial practice needs to fully develop your understanding of your chosen niche. The Photography department within Bradford School of Arts and Media is affiliated to the AOP (Association of Photographers) and continues to be sponsored by Light Phase camera technology. We also have a joint partnership with the National Media Museum. You will have the opportunity to learn from both practitioners and experienced professionals. You will work with artists and designers a well as local and national galleries, museums and exhibitions. The investigation, critical decision making and research skills you will acquire are planned in keeping with the versatility of the demands of the industry. It is intended that on completion, you should be fully equipped to meet the challenges and demands of the current employment market and have the necessary skills to meet a variety of current sector demands.

Course Details - Modules

The course corresponds to one year of full-time study. Level Six will be largely based on this proposal, and will allow you to focus on your preferred area of the sector, and develop creatively according to your personal choices. Level Six modules include: Specialist Film Practice; Specialist Film Contexts; Specialist Film Techniques and Processes; Specialist Professional Film Practice.

Course Details – Assessment Method

Our supportive teaching and learning environment is created by a team of well qualified, dedicated staff. We aim to create a positive environment, substantiated by a Personal Tutor system to ensure that you are individually supported. You will be assessed by a range of formative and summative assessments, which allow you to continue strengthening your skills as a Film Maker. The course is based both on practical and theoretical study, which will be reflected in the method of assessment; practical work will typically be assessed through the presentation of a body of work in portfolio or exhibition form, whilst written work will be presented in essays, reports or journals, including the completion of a dissertation at Level Six.

As part of the application process, you will be required to attend an interview to which you should bring a portfolio of your work. Applications are encouraged though non-traditional routes. An appropriate level of study will be identified through a portfolio presentation and evidence of professional practice experience at interview. If you have already completed a Foundation degree or HND, you will be considered for direct entry to the appropriate level of the degree course.
