Course Summary

Strength and Conditioning is a strand of sport science with its foundations grounded in physiology, biomechanics, nutrition and coaching sciences. Practitioners within strength and conditioning are guided by evidence-based practice and their practice is associated with the physical and physiological preparation of athletes for sporting performance and improved health outcomes within clinical and general populations. The BSc (Hons) Strength and Conditioning programme was developed in response to a growing demand for highly skilled and evidence-based practitioners with specialism in the physical training of a range of populations. The programme is aligned to the vocational skills, knowledge and applied skills in strength and conditioning required for professional accreditation in this field. Graduates from the programme will hold the core skills required to become an Accredited Coach with the UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA) and as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA, a USA accrediting body). Successful completion of the degree will enable students to target employment as strength and conditioning professionals within professional sport teams, community-based environments or through government funded institutions. In addition, the programme will equip graduates with the skills to gain employment within traditional routes associated with degree level sport programmes including; teaching, further and higher education lecturing, public services, allied healthcare sector, fitness industry or progression onto postgraduate study.
