Course Summary

The BA Fashion Design & Manufacture (Top Up) programme provides a natural progression from a Foundation Degree and enables students to concentrate on the production of a final Graduate Collection supported by creative research to synthesise theory and practice and further expand their fashion design portfolio. Students will utilise critical thinking skills, practical ability, along with creative skills and knowledge and understanding of their subject specialism to focus on a specific area of individual interest and develop a greater appreciation of current issues prevalent within the fashion industry. The production of the Collection allows students to refine skills in pattern cutting, design and manufacture along with portfolio presentation techniques, enabling students to develop the necessary expertise required to critically evaluate concepts and apply them to real-world situations. This final collection will be celebrated as part of the annual Graduate Showcase event. This is a practically-based programme providing students with the tools they need to progress into a range of employment opportunities within the fashion industry, building on employment networks created within industry developed during the Foundation Degree and providing the student with a balanced approach to theory, research and practical application of technical skills enhancing both academic ability and portfolio development allowing students to plan career moves effectively.
