Course Summary

This programme will provide in depth specialist business understanding within the agriculture sector. The programme is underpinned with the principles of crop and livestock production along with environmental influences. This will enable the graduates to have an all-round appreciation and knowledge of farming businesses and be able to adapt in a timely way to any future policy changes. The core underpinning of business management is complimented with integrated transferable and employability skills to apply in a range of industry sectors. Graduates will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of organisations, the business environment, operations and management practices, gaining valuable application opportunities within our excellent agricultural commercial enterprises. The programme prepares students with creativity and confidence to market products and services. Graduates will have the skills and knowledge required to develop and run adaptable, innovative, sustainable and successful business ventures within the agriculture sector. During the first year of the programme, all students undertake an external work placement which benefits from our extensive industry links in support with gaining placements, this may include local farmers or estates, machinery dealerships, food producers, advisory companies and feed and grain merchants. Graduates will be able to operate key software packages such as Farmplan Gate Keeper and Livestock Manager which is utilised within 80% of UK farming businesses in the UK, enabling them to evaluate on farm data to reduce inputs and improve outputs on the farm which is seen as a key outcome for any farm business manager. Students are effectively prepared for academic study by undertaking a series of academic, professional and research skill related modules over the two years. A Level 5 introductory research analysis modules further develops ability to analyse and evaluate data sets using packages, as well as ability to investigate an idea, collectively designed to support progression to higher levels of study and research. The programme sets out to future proof the students for the ever-changing agricultural sector.
