The BTEC Higher National qualification in Business targets students wanting to continue their education through applied learning. This route provides a wide-ranging study of the Business sector allowing students to develop a broad understanding of the key disciplines whilst also developing the personal skills needed for academic and professional success. **Learning and Teaching Approach** This programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all students’ learning styles and preferences. For all modules, theory lectures are delivered that aim to deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge. To complement the theory lectures, students have group seminars/practical sessions that are used to reinforce concepts delivered theoretically. The teaching methods focus on facilitating a student-centred approach to enhance the independent learning that takes place outside of the classroom. Teaching will take place on the Bishop Burton campus. **What is the contact time?** Approximately 17 hours a week to include lectures, seminars and tutorials. Students are also expected to carry out a significant amount of private study in addition to contact time (25-30 hours a week). Part-time is also available with this being taught alongside the full-time programme. Upon successful completion of the HNC Business programme students can progress onto HND or the second year (level 5) of related Bachelors or Foundation degree study (subject to approval of prior learning of the delivering institution).

Year 1: Students will gain a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of business sector through units that cover; marketing essentials, human resource management, managing a successful business project, management and operations, management accounting, entrepreneurship and small business management and business law. * There is a strong emphasis on employability skills and the knowledge essential for students with entrepreneurial, employment or academic aspirations * The programme content is specifically designed to be appropriate for entry or progression within the business sector and to enable students to progress onto higher study at Higher National Diploma (HND) or BA degree pathways.

Assessments may include written assignments, seminars, poster presentations, role-plays, reports, portfolios, case studies and presentations. Opportunities for feedback on assessments are available prior to the final submission to support student development and achievement. Staff aim to return assessed work within a 15 working day timeframe (not including holidays) in order that students can most benefit from the feedback.
