Our Biology programme is a flexible broad-based degree that uses a systems approach to study biomedical, biotechnological, genetic ecological, and evolutionary biology. This degree is ideal if you are interested in an interdisciplinary approach to biology, or wish to specialise at a later stage. A degree in Biology provides an excellent basis for science or health-related careers, and for a wide range of other occupations and professions from management and finance, to journalism and teaching.

Standard Qualification Requirements

Cambridge Pre-U Biology and a second Science are essential.

Essential Subjects: Biology and a second Science (or equivalent) are essential. We consider the following subjects as a second Science: Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Further Maths, Geography, Geology, Maths, Physics, Psychology or Statistics. Human Biology is also accepted in place of Biology. Information: Applicants taking Science A Levels that include a practical component will be required to pass.

Only acceptable in conjunction with Scottish Advanced Highers.

Pass Access to HE Diploma with 39 credits at Distinction and 6 at Merit or higher including Biology and a second Science-related units.

Acceptable in conjunction with Scottish Highers. Advanced Higher Biology and a second Science are essential.

If you achieve B or higher at EPQ, you may be eligible for an alternative offer up to one A Level grade (or equivalent) below our typical offer.

With 6 in Higher Level Biology and a second Science.

We consider a range of BTEC qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. A Level in Biology and a second Science (or equivalent qualification) are essential. We may also consider relevant units in your BTEC as A Level Science equivalent. We consider BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science with all 7 mandatory units plus 3 units from 8,9,10,11,12,17 and 20 OR 2 from this list plus 1 unit from 13,14, 18 and 19.

We consider a range of OCR qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. A Level in Biology and a second Science (or equivalent qualification) are essential. We may also consider relevant units in your OCR Cambridge Technical as A Level Science equivalent.

We will consider this qualification alongside or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications, as equivalent to one A Level.

Although we do not typically hold interviews for this course, mature candidates and those with special circumstances and/or qualifications may be invited to attend an interview. We consider a wide range of qualifications for entry. We may also make reduced offers where applicants are eligible for our contextual offer scheme, or are taking specific additional qualifications.
