The business of sport is a multi-billion pound industry and one of the most exciting sectors in the world economy. This programme is designed to give you the skills and expertise you need to thrive in the many businesses and organisations which make up the sport industry. There are a huge range of roles and specialisms within the sporting industry. This course encompasses the many interlinking aspects of managing a sports business, giving you an in-depth understanding of the challenges and opportunities you may face working in this sector. You will consider crucial business functions like marketing, event management, strategy and finance within the context of sporting organisations. You will also explore topics specific to sport, including the management of sponsorship opportunities and the development of grassroots or elite sport. As well as building a strong foundation of knowledge in business management, which is transferable across many industries, you will learn about the role sport plays in society, communities and the lives of individuals.This means confronting social issues raised through sport, and not being afraid to question existing practices in the industry. York St John University has a thriving sporting community: our Nestlé Rowntree Park Sports Campus is one of the biggest of its kind in the country, our sport science academics are active researchers and the Students’ Union is home to many different sporting teams. It is a great place to immerse yourself in the study of sport management. Academic study is always balanced with the development of practical skills. Modules All students take four modules: Business Enterprise Developments in Business and Society Foundations of Economic and Financial Analysis Academic Skills and Personal Development These modules are designed to provide the grounding in the knowledge the students require in order for them to progress on any of our degree programmes, while also providing the opportunity for students to transfer across our portfolio of courses.
