Course Summary

Marketing is an exciting and dynamic industry where every week can be different. Our Degree will prepare you for a career in Marketing, combining essential knowledge with practical experience and training. This degree reflects the modern world of marketing; incorporating digital communications, data analytics and social media alongside the traditional skills and knowledge which will form the foundation of your marketing career. Marketing can seem full of contradictions: It is a fast-changing industry with new strategies constantly developing; but it is built on the simple idea that meaningful stories can impact peoples’ lives. It is driven by technology and increasingly reliant on data and digital; but it is about empathy and understanding human behaviour. It is closely tied to a business’s finances and concerned with return on investment; but it is also creative – you could find yourself designing campaigns, overseeing photography, editing written copy, or giving feedback on artwork. Marketing is a practical, hands-on process – not just a collection of theories learnt in a classroom. We make extensive use of case study material, guest speakers, workplace visits and project work to help you apply what you’ve learnt. The programme combines academic study with real-world scenarios, developing your knowledge with marketing problem-solving situations. You will gain valuable, real-world experience of marketing on a year-long placement between your second and third years of study. In your first year you will develop a general grounding in Marketing. In the second and third years of the course you will have opportunities to specialise your knowledge with contemporary marketing modules which go into key areas in greater depth. In your final year you will undertake a piece of research into a topic of your choosing. Throughout the course you will also learn important managerial skills, preparing you to manage your own marketing team.
