If you think you could create the next big game then this is the course for you. Our Games Development course will give you the skills necessary to contribute to game development from Indie to AAA. We will thoroughly prepare you for employment in the fast-paced computer games industry. The specialist modules we have designed for this programme are taught by our small team of games experts. You will develop excellent practical development skills to make cutting-edge games and prepare you for a career in the games industry, either as a member of a larger team or as an independent creator. As you progress through the programme you can elect to specialise in the aspect of game development that interests you most, such as artificial intelligence in games. As well as developing a sophisticated understanding of the technical practices that underpin the creation of modern video games, you will learn core programming, design and computational systems which can be applied to a range of industries and situations outside of gaming. Live projects and work experience are central to our ethos. These will be led by your individual professional ambitions, supported by our specialist staff with additional input from industry experts. Your experience will be further enhanced by our belief in the importance of hands-on and practical teaching within small class sizes. Gaining this vital real-world experience means that you will graduate with both the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the exciting world of Games Development.

Course Details - Modules

Modules may include: Level 1: Programming 1 Mathematics and Problem Solving Computer Games Fundamentals Programming 2 Software Engineering Technology in Context Level 2: Programming 3 Databases and Networks Design Patterns for Games Mobile Application Development Professional Project Philosophies of Technology Placement year: In order to undertake a year in industry placement you will need to have achieved the minimum requirements for progression at level 2 and will also have to satisfy the following criteria: You must have no outstanding modules from level 1 or 2 You must demonstrate a good level of professionalism in your academic conduct within the university, to the point where an academic from the computing team is willing to agree your suitability for the proposed placement During the year in industry placement you will be allocated a mentor from within the University, who will monitor your progress throughout the placement. This may include Skype/email conversations. You will have a minimum of one field visit which will include a conversation with the employer. For Second Year entry, applicants must have completed the first year of Higher Education in a similar subject with a total of 120 credits. For Third Year entry, applicants must have completed the first and second year of Higher Education in a similar subject with a total of 240 credits. Applicants will need to submit a transcript of their completed study, and offers will be subject to a mapping exercise of modules to ensure an appropriate alignment of course content.
