Studying Economics & Finance is a great opportunity to combine a broad understanding of how they impact on the world around us. Learn to analyse economic and financial information, while also determining the impact of decisions on financial institutions, the economy and wider society. We take economic decisions every day of our lives and in turn are affected by the decisions of other people and institutions. Economics is the study of these decisions and actions and this Economics & Finance Degree will enable you to understand how these processes work. Study in an engaging and supportive environment and gain the analytical, quantitative and transferable skills required by employers in both the private and public sectors. During Level 1 you will develop a grounding in economics and finance, followed by opportunities to study more specialist and applied topics in Levels 2 and 3. This programmes focuses on the application of theory to real-world scenarios, to develop applied skills and knowledge in a bid to solve economic and financial problems at local and international levels. You could study modules such as International Trade, International Finance, Risk and Insurance or Contemporary Business Economics, allowing you to understand the workings of world economies and world finance. The skills graduates of this programme possess are in high demand, allowing you to work in a diverse range of professions from banking and insurance to analysis, market research and economics. Students will also gain additional Chartered Management Institute (CMI) accreditation (* subject to approval) including an additional qualification.

Course Details - Modules

Modules Compulsory modules: Practising Responsible Business Behaviours This module considers ideas including stakeholder theory, the triple bottom line, corporate social responsibility, business ethics, the role of the state or of supra-national organisations. Principles of Applied Economics Develop your understanding of economic principles and learn to apply standard economic techniques. You will explore microeconomic and macroeconomic theories and how they affect business decisions. Perspectives on Economic Growth and Development Learn key economic theories and discuss their application. Understand economic growth factors such as labour, capital and technological changes. Developing Analysis Techniques This module introduces essential quantitative methods for modelling and analysing financial data. Analyse practical situations and problem solve. Economic Policy and Practice Explore the fundamental concepts and techniques of macroeconomic analysis in more depth. Learn how the Central Bank and Government affect inflation, consumption, economic growth and unemployment. Bond and Equity Markets An introduction to the essential concepts of finance and capital markets. Use the London Stock Exchange trading platform that to create your own investment portfolio and compete in live trading. All modules are worth 20 credits unless stated otherwise.

For Second Year entry, applicants must have completed the first year of Higher Education in a similar subject with a total of 120 credits. For Third Year entry, applicants must have completed the first and second year of Higher Education in a similar subject with a total of 240 credits. Applicants will need to submit a transcript of their completed study, and offers will be subject to a mapping exercise of modules to ensure an appropriate alignment of course content.
