Course Summary

As an FD Children's Development and Learning student at York College, you will be joining a programme with an established reputation for producing graduates who enjoy challenging careers in the early years services. You will study a variety of themes as part of the course including valuing inclusivity through shared expertise, understanding learning and education theorists, academic skills, communicating in an effective and professional manner and the wider social and economic environment. You will be joining a programme with an established reputation for producing graduates who enjoy challenging careers in the early years services. Tutors on the Foundation Degree in Children's Development and Learning will work with you, to ensure that you are able to develop the skills and competencies you need to progress in your career. This bespoke support ensures that our graduates achieve the highest possible standards in both their academic achievement and professional lives. The FD is awarded on completion of 120 credits at level 4, completed across seven modules. There is a requirement for the student to be employed in the children’s workforce or to undertake a work placement to be able to complete some of the module assessments. Ideally, you will already be working professionally with children and the format of the programme, normally taught on one afternoon and evening each week, will enable you to balance your work and studies. If you are not currently employed in working with children, voluntary work placements can be arranged. Your work will be continually assessed through a number of methods such as assignments, essays and work-based research. Successful completion of the FD Children’s Development and Learning will enable you to enrol on the BA (Hons) Leading Children’s Development (Top-up) and Learning at York College University to convert your qualification into a full honours’ degree.
