Course Summary

The Higher National Diploma (HND) in Aeronautical Engineering allows students to achieve a qualification equivalent to the first two years of a degree. The course is taught by industry specialists dedicated to ensuring you acquire the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the sector, the programme offers the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of the various aspects of flight and professional standards. **Work Experience and Placement** There is no requirement for work experience or a work placement within an Engineering company, although it is encouraged for those that have not currently employed in the sector. Using our excellent links with local employers we will always support you in finding a suitable placement.. **After the Course** If you successfully achieve your programme of study, you will be awarded a Pearson Higher National Diploma (Level 5) in Aeronautical Engineering after which there are a number of options open to you. On successful completion of the HND Aeronautical Engineering, you could apply to complete a full BEng Honours degree. Your second option would be to seek employment with an engineering company.

Course Details - Modules

This course builds on previous units in an associated subject studied at level 4 and you will study a range of units that will further develop your specialist knowledge and skills. Listed below are examples of units that are likely to be studied: Level 5: Research Project, Aircraft Flight Control Systems, Professional Engineering Management, Further Mathematics, Aircraft Propulsion Principles and Technology, Advanced Turbines and Flight Systems, Aircraft Structural Integrity. Please be aware that modules studied may change periodically to reflect developments in the discipline. Students can always find the most up-to-date information about your modules and who is teaching them in the course handbook. As with all HE programmes, students are required to take ownership of their learning and development and should expect to spend time studying and completing assessment tasks with independence outside of lectures. Additional one to one support is available by student request in addition to the class contact time in taught sessions.
