Course Summary

This award is aimed at those individuals who wish to develop their interest in sport science but who wish to pursue a career as a PE teacher and gain experience whilst studying. This degree will still continue to provide a robust grounding in the scientific principles relevant to the sports industry but will also introduce the student to a variety of educational content that will enable the transfer of that knowledge in a pedagogically effective way to learners. This course will provide a tailored degree-level Sport and Exercise science course to those students who wish to develop their knowledge across a range of coaching-related disciplines such as physiology, nutrition, coaching and psychology whilst combining the acquisition of practical and transferable skills with theoretical understanding. The inclusion of education modules will enable the student to begin to acquire knowledge and skills relevant to a teaching environment, where recognition of modern delivery techniques is fundamental to effective teaching practice. In particular, the education content of the award will address the theory of learning and utilising digital technology as well as providing teaching experience. This course is for those students looking particularly for careers in sport teaching or coaching, subject to further qualifications.
