Course Summary

Public health saves lives. The discipline has always had a major role in preventing health problems, and protecting the health of the nation, and is more relevant now than ever. Increasing government attention is focussed on improving population health, as demonstrated in current policy. Much emphasis is placed on tackling the underlying causes of ill-health, promoting health and well-being, and addressing health inequalites. Many agencies now having public health responsibilities; this is opening up new opportunities for innovative approaches. It also brings the need for a well-prepared public health workforce, able to work flexibly across many disciplines and demonstrate a wide range of abilities. This course is specifically designed to fulfil this need. Exercise and physical activity are one of the key pillars of Public Health England’s strategy – if you're particularly interested in promoting exercise for health, the BSc (Hons) Exercise & Health degree might be of interest.
