Course Summary

This full-time course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to practice as a Paramedic. On successful completion of the course, graduates will be eligible to apply to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) for registration as a paramedic. The course offers education and training in the rewarding, challenging and diverse role of a paramedic, teaching the essential emergency and urgent care skills that are needed for safe care delivery. The programme is delivered in partnership with the West Midlands Ambulance Service who will provide you with experiential learning in the out-of-hospital unscheduled care environment. You will also have opportunities to develop skills in simulation and experience placements in the wider NHS. This course will prepare you for key aspects of the paramedic role including public interaction, contributions to all aspect of community and out-of-hospital care, and working in demanding conditions and challenging environments. Values consistent with the NHS constitution will be sought from applicants at interview.

Standard Qualification Requirements

BCC from three GCE/VCE A Levels at grade A, B, C or above one subject to be a Science (science subject could be Biology; Physics; Chemistry; Psychology; Health and Social care) not including A level General Studies. Applicants holding A Level qualifications in subjects not listed eg: Sociology may be considered on an individual basis where there is evidence of a listed science at GCSE.

Access to HE Diploma Full award (60 credits) in Health Studies, Health Science, Nursing or other Science based course are considered, of which a minimum of 45 must be at Level 3 with at least 24 of these Level 3 credits at Merit or Distinction. If you do not have GCSE Science grade C/4+ /equivalence, an additional 12 Level 2 science credits (biology, chemistry or physics) within the Access can be accepted as GCSE grade C/4+ equivalence.

BTEC QCF Diploma at grade D*D in a Science, Health or Care based subject (not including Public Uniformed Services)

BTEC QCF Extended Diploma at grade DMM Science, Health or Care based subject (not including Public Uniformed Services)

You must also have three GCSE's - Maths, English and Science (science subject could be Biology; Physics; Chemistry; Psychology; Health and Social care) at Grade C+/ 4 or equivalent.
