Our dynamic three-year programme focusses on the four areas of arts management, stage management, venue management and technical stage management which includes sound and lighting operation. A variety of live events take place at the University and locally which will allow you to hone your skills. Additionally, we have close links with many local theatres and our students often work within these venues. Teaching is delivered by theatre professionals who work in the industry and therefore ensure that content is relevant and up to date. Your learning experience is enhanced by engagement with a variety of theatre professionals and organisations who give talks and involve students in productions on campus. You have access to great facilities for theatrical work, including two fully equipped, flexible studio theatres and our Performing Arts Studios. We also use professional amenities at the Theatre Royal, in Winchester, and The Point in Eastleigh. There are plenty of opportunities to see performances in Winchester, Southampton, Basingstoke and London’s rich theatrical landscape is just an hour away by train. Year 1 provides you with a practical introduction to the different roles in the theatre and a chance to try out new skills. In Year 2, you explore more specific elements of production management and arts management such as, marketing and management and theatre design. Wherever possible, you test your skills on producing work for real companies and venues so the experience is highly relevant to a career in the industry. The final year gives you an opportunity for focused individual study and to work on advanced production projects. Helping you to optimise your employability is a core part of the programme. Throughout the course you build key skills which can be applied to multiple careers. You learn to budget your time and resources, develop vital IT know-how, as well as enhanced communication and presentation skills. You also learn about project management, collaborative working and report writing.

Entry Requirements for Advanced Entry (Year 2 and Beyond)

Applicants who wish to apply for advanced standing (exemption from part of a programme) based on previous study are considered on an individual basis. Applicants are required to provide transcripts. confirming the module titles and grades they have already achieved, as well as module handbooks and/or programme specifications showing the learning outcomes of the modules completed.

A 'Pass (C or above on the core)' in a T Level is accepted for entry to this course

A GCSE A*-C or 9-4 pass in English Language is required

We welcome applications from students who are completing an Access to Higher Education Diploma. We normally look for applicants to have studied a course that is in a similar subject and offers are usually made in line with our published tariff point range.

Applicants are required to hold a minimum of 2 x A-level or equivalent qualifications (e.g. 2 x BTEC National Subsidiary Diplomas) and we accept all A-level subjects, including Critical Thinking, General Studies and own-language A-levels. We welcome applicants who have completed the Extended Project (EP/EPQ) and points obtained from this qualification will be included in any offer. In addition, we accept a maximum of 32 points from level 3 qualifications below A2 that are included in the tariff (e.g. AS-levels not studied at A-level, music or dance qualifications). If you are a mature student, your application will be considered on its individual merits and work or other professional experience may be taken into consideration in lieu of other published requirements.
