This dynamic course – an optional pathway of the Business Management programme – provides the solid foundation you need to build your empire. Whether you choose to pursue a new business venture or create groundbreaking products and services for existing organisations, our rewarding three-year programme recognises your individual promise and helps to shape you as a budding and innovative entrepreneur. Alongside study of the key business and management areas, you can participate in an Enterprise Project, in which small groups of students develop a start-up idea to the stage of a formal business plan presented to, and assessed by, potential investors. Past projects have led to significant funding for new business ventures. For additional real-world experience, you can profit from the Trading Room in the Winchester Business School, which offers you a computer-based business simulation of the stock exchange. See how your company fares in the fast-paced economic market and use this feedback to hone your business plan. The Foundation Year (first year of study) gives you the chance to commence your studies with us if you have not quite achieved the degree qualifications required or if you feel you would benefit from the opportunity to develop your study skills and subject knowledge prior to embarking on your degree. Through a range of engaging, small-group lessons and practical placements, you will be equipped with the academic, professional and personal skills to help you succeed at university. Modules will cover broad topics as well as an introduction to your chosen subject area. You will also have the opportunity to study alongside students undertaking a range of degree programmes. In Year 1, core modules such as People and Organisations, Responsible Management and Marketing Principles give you a sound basis for your innovation. Once your first year of Business Management is complete, you can sharpen your business acumen in Year 2 with modules including Effectual Entrepreneurship, Creativity, Design and Innovation, and Business Profitability and Performance. As you develop the skills and courage needed to take risks and build success, you can consider entering the University’s Enterprise 'Try It' or 'Do It' Awards, which are open to all staff, students and recent graduates. In Year 3, as you prepare to enter the marketplace, the course equips you to take on general management roles involving creativity and the development of new products and services. On top of modules such as Entrepreneurship in Action and Strategic Innovation Management, choose from modules such as Project Management, Digital Marketing and Strategic Brand Management. You are taught by lecturers with in-depth industry experience in a wide range of roles, including some with experience of running their own business. Graduates go on to launch their own companies and/or enter a broad field of careers such as business development, product development, general management, strategic planning and project management, as well as roles within finance and marketing.

A GCSE A*-C or 9-4 pass in English Language and Mathematics is required.

Applicants are usually required to hold a minimum of 1 x A-level or equivalent qualifications (e.g. 1 x BTEC National Subsidiary Diplomas) and we accept all A-level subjects, including Critical Thinking, General Studies and own-language A-levels. If you are a mature student, your application will be considered on its individual merits and work or other professional experience may be taken into consideration in lieu of other published requirements.
