Course Summary

This programme is aimed primarily at those who have completed the first two years of the Foundation Degree at the College and wish to complete a third year that will enable them to achieve a BA (Honours) Counselling. You will be a qualified Counsellor working either in a paid or voluntary capacity. Accreditation of prior learning (APL) will apply for those wanting to infill this third year, but to be eligible you must have already completed a diploma in counselling that meets the training requirements of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and have the capacity to study at the third year of degree level. Written work will be undertaken as part of the APL process. This is a full time course with formal attendance on the taught aspects of the programme on one day per week (Monday) over one year and aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of counselling work in a way that will enable students to: •To critically analyse a wider range of Counselling orientations and to develop their own personal integration of these within their practice. •To assist students in deepening their knowledge of counselling theory and their ability to put this into practice. •To make links between learned theory and practice. You will need: To have qualified as a counsellor FdA Counselling, or alternative diploma in Counselling that meets BACP requirements A minimum of 100 hours of supervised client work Counselling must form a substantial part of your current work, either in a paid or voluntary capacity. All applicants must have an initial assessment, complete a written assignment and have an interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them. Written assignments for Accreditation of Prior Learning will have to be submitted and successfully passed before the start of the programme.
