Course Summary

This course explores the relationship between social behaviour and crime via a fusion of 2 fascinating disciplines. On this BSc degree, students will examine the perception of what is right or wrong, and how this has changed over time and between cultures. They will learn from expert tutors who provide links to government resources, criminal justice agencies and the media. A wide range of rewarding sociology and criminology-related careers await, including social and police work. The course focuses on social aspects of criminology and sociology and an in depth look at human behaviour, including deviant behaviour and attitudes towards deviance over time. Students will learn about a range of themes from criminology including victimology, cybercrime, terrorism and extremism, sex crimes and the role of the media in portraying crime, terrorism, and deviance.

Course Details - Modules

The course is at an undergraduate level adhering to UEA assessment regulations. Students will be taught through a series of seminars, tutorials, group-based projects, practical experience and lectures. Assessment will be chosen to be appropriate to the learning outcomes of each module and may include examinations, coursework, presentation, and practical examples of work-based activity. All modules provide opportunities for formative assessment and these tasks are geared towards the practical and theoretical aspects of the course main topics. Feedback will be provided within UEA guidelines on all coursework submissions.
