Course Summary

This course, set within the popular and innovative disciplines of sociology, is designed to introduce students to a range of key principles and ideas within the field. They will explore ideas of modernism, social status and hierarchy, group dynamics, conflict and resolution, covering different aspects of sociology such as crime, semiotics, religion and politics. The course explores the ways people behave en masse, how and why they come together, how small and large-scale organisations run. The course provides an in depth look at human behaviour, including deviant behaviour and attitudes towards deviance over time. As students progress through the degree, they will develop their academic and personal skills including research, critical thinking, time management, presentation skills, team-work and self confidence in discussing challenging and – at times – controversial issues.
