Course Summary

This degree is designed for those pursuing a career in the legal sector and for those who wish to obtain a degree which is sought after by employers in a variety of other law related and business sectors Students study a wide range of legal subjects which, if students wish, can be combined with the study of languages and/or wider business subject areas. The first year of the programme is a foundational year in which key legal concepts and subjects are studied such as Criminal Law, Public Law, and Legal System. Students also undertake legal skills based modules and begin to study legal philosophy. Second year builds on these foundations and covers mostly Scots Law subject areas such as Property, Family Law, and Succession. Second year also covers some UK law subjects such as Corporate Law. Third year offers the possibility of a study abroad experience. For those who choose not to study abroad subjects covered will include Employment Law, and International Human Rights Law. The majority of third year modules are optional modules. Honours year allows students to develop in-depth legal knowledge and understanding in a range of subject areas. Graduates enjoy careers in the legal sector and in the wider business sector. Other opportunities include citizens advice, trading standards, accountancy, local government, academia, the police force, and roles within banks and finance companies. Graduates can obtain further legal qualifications which could lead to a career as a solicitor.
