This programme will give you a wide ranging understanding of computing.
Study topics include software development processes and technologies; foundations of programming; software modelling tools; object-oriented analysis and design; databases; and web service development and applications.
You have the option of taking a three month industrial placement module in Year 3. A 12-month paid sandwich placement in an industrial or commercial setting, providing practical experience to complement your academic studies, is also offered. Study abroad opportunities are available. Industry experts will share their expertise through guest lectures.
Careers include software developer or software engineer, web developer, systems analyst, database administrator, database designer, IT consultancy and technology sales.

Course content
This programme will give you a wide ranging understanding of computing.
Guest speakers from industry form part of the programme to further deepen your understanding of the subject. Recent speakers have included representatives from Morgan Stanley, Search Consultancy and Edge Testing.
Year 1
Studies include an introduction to software development processes and technologies, including the foundations of programming in a modern programming language and the development of applications.
Year 2
Core modules include object-oriented analysis and design. You also learn how to use modern software modelling tools and development environments. Databases are introduced, and you will learn more about how web-based and mobile applications are developed.
Year 3
You will enhance technical skills in web service development and applications, and the database systems that underlie many of them.
Year 4 (Honours)
You will study in more depth the areas which interest you and undertake a substantial individual project.
