Our BA Set Design and BA Theatre Design & Production degree courses at UWTSD are practical, hands-on courses designed for people who are fascinated by the processes of exploring, creating and building designs, props, costume, lighting, sound and more; it is for people who want to design and make environments on stage and/or screen. The programme concerns itself with turning narrative and screenplay/scripts into 'sets', through carefully planned practical modules and expert tuition. The diverse nature of the courses means we go from the foundations skills right through to producing performances, films, and events.

Assessment is carried out through coursework, both written and practical. There are no exams on this course. A variety of assessment methods are used throughout the course which include:
Performances/events
Students regularly have opportunities to take part in performances/events, through which we can see growth and application of skills and knowledge.
Regular tutorials
We hold formal, and informal, tutorials throughout the degree. Each student can discuss their work with the module tutor or Programme Director during tutorials. We look at practical development, conceptual growth and future intentions.
Presentations
Presentations normally take place at the end of a module, exhibition or performance, in order to measure a student’s performance against assessment criteria.
Process workbooks
At level 4 & 5 students will document their process and practical work in a workbook which demonstrates their learning and individual pathway. At level 6, students may write about their work in blogs, forums and written tasks.
Exhibiting work
The nature of this varies within the context of the projects, the work to be assessed and the stage of the programme - it can range in formality from a public venue to the individual student’s desk space.
