Our single honours Psychology degree (accredited by the British Psychological Society) engages students with the academic knowledge and practical skills required by graduates in modern society. Our new laboratory and teaching spaces in the Swansea SA1 campus provide an excellent learning environment, and the focus on both learning and doing provides our graduates with a truly unique skillset, guided by an expert team of academic psychologists in small group environments. The programme has a strong focus upon the application of psychological knowledge to understanding real-life situations, and students will develop a critical understanding of how psychological theories can be used to improve individual, organisational, and societal health. The programme is delivered through an innovative blend of traditional lectures, practical workshops, and small seminar group work, providing students with regular opportunity to discuss and debate cutting edge research and real world applications of psychology with fellow students and tutors.

Students must complete 120 credits in each academic year, made up of a number of distinct 20 credit modules, in order to achieve the 360 credits needed for an honours degree award. At Level Six (Year Three) students choose from a number of modules alongside the 40-credit Psychology Empirical Project, allowing them to tailor their final year towards their areas of interest. Year one modules include Social and Developmental Psychology; Cognition and Emotion; Understanding the Self; Psych Lab; Academic Study Skills for Students; and Research Methods. Year two modules include Social Psychology; Individual Differences; Brain, Biology and Cognition; Research in Action; Psychology for Work; and Research Methods II. Year three modules can be chosen from those offered each year such as The Psychology of Prejudice and Discrimination; Health Psychology; Clinical Psychology; Mental Health in Children and Young People; CBT and the New Cognitive Therapies; Cognition in Action; all carried out alongside the compulsory Psychology Empirical Project, an opportunity to carry out your own area of research under supervisory guidance.

Assessment is carried out through a variety of assessment methods including written essays, presentations, examinations, portfolios, practical in-class assessments, and a dissertation thesis. The assessments are carefully designed to allow students to display their knowledge and ability on each of the topic areas studied.
