Course Summary

Motorcycle Engineering covers three themes; core engineering covers subjects such as Maths, thermodynamics, mechanics, structures, stress analysis and advanced computational methods. The Design theme explores computational methods with practical skills in CAED. Finally, the applied technology theme teaches motorcycle dynamics and engine performance, and motorcycle research and development.

Course Details - Modules

In your first year you will concentrate on maths and science, CAD and IT with a group project and study skills helping you make the transition to an HE engineering programme. A number of themes are then developed throughout the course . The core engineering theme with subjects such as Maths, Thermodynamics, Mechanics and Structures is introduced in Year 2, developed in Year 3 with Thermofluid Mechanics and Engineering Structural Design and then explored in greater depth in in Year 4 with Stress Analysis and Advanced Computational Methods. The Design Theme starts in Year 2 with CAED, and is then developed in Year 3 with Computational Methods and the Group project leading into Advanced Computational Methods and the Major Project in Year 4 , Finally the Applied Technology Theme moves through Motorcycle Technology in Year 1, though Motorcycle Dynamics and Powertrain Control in Year 3 to Advanced Motorcycle Dynamics and Advanced Engine Design in Year 4.

Course Details – Assessment Method

Modules are assessed in a variety of ways including traditional examinations, coursework, practical activities, group and individual presentations, all of which are designed to equip students with the experience and skills needed as they move forward in their studies and their careers.
