Course Summary

Automotive Engineering covers three main themes; core engineering includes subjects such as Maths, thermodynamics, mechanics, stress analysis and structures. The Design theme explores computational methods with practical skills using CAED. Finally, the applied technology theme teaches vehicle dynamics and technology, powertrain control and advanced engine design.

Course Details - Modules

The course is a mixture of practical and analytical modules, all of them dovetailing the engineering from basic principles theme. Maths and Science are core and are reinforced in almost every module, this combined with a good grounding in design, powertrain, chassis, management, suspension, diagnostic and practical abilities means that after the first year students can embark on a group design project employing all the skills learnt in the first year. On successful completion of the HND there is a one year top up to a BSc open to you, where third year modules build on these skills, enhancing your ability to work in a team and specialise in an area of your choice through completion of a major dissertation.

Course Details – Assessment Method

Assessment is spread across the academic year and is a mixture of practical tests & presentations, classroom phase tests and assignment work, thus we hope to appeal to each students best way of learning while improving their weaker areas.
