Course Summary

The foundation degree in Health Studies explores a range of contextualised health related issues, as well as developing your study and research skills. We provide an up-to-date and relevant Health Studies course in terms of both subject knowledge and skills. Health Studies provide students an in-depth understanding of health and healthcare and you learn to research, analyse and evaluate health and health-related issues from a multidisciplinary standpoint. Through our Health Studies foundation degree, we help develop your awareness of your subject-specific skills, transferable skills and provide you with a reflective approach to learning. This experience gives our graduates an advantage when applying for employment or further study.

Course Details - Modules

Year 1 Modules: Foundations of Health Care; Life Course Approaches to Health Care; Introduction to Social Policy; Communication Skills in Health and Social Care; The Context of Health and Social Care; Biochemistry of Life. Year 2 Modules: Research Design and Inquiry; Applied Health and Social Care; Social Inclusion, Empowerment and Public Health; Mental Health and Wellbeing; Physical Health and Wellbeing; Understanding Health and Disease.

Course Details – Assessment Method

There are two formal or summative assessed pieces of work for each module. Assessment methods can include written examinations and a range of coursework assessments such as essays, reports, portfolios, presentations, and projects. The grades from formal assessments count towards your module mark. In addition to formal assessments throughout modules of study there will be developmental (formative) assessments to support you with developing greater understanding of your progress. We recognise feedback as an essential component of your learning and progression. We adopt a feed-forward approach whereby feedback is given in a developmental manner to support your continued progression. You will receive feedback on all assessments within 20 working days.
