**About this Course:** This course is an exciting three-year course, designed to equip you with a broad range of skills for entering the music industry. Your studies will include the history and theory of popular music, studio production, song writing, composition, music industry studies, live sound and group performance. The degree course offers you the chance to be part of the Roland Music Academy, using the latest industry-standard equipment. On this course, you can expect: • To develop your practical, technical and creative skills, both in the studio and onstage • To acquire professional skills in recording, producing, promoting, performing, researching, analysing and criticising popular music • To enhance your career potential within the broad range of music-related professions; including performance, live sound engineering, studio recording, production, management, events organising, promotion and teaching • To develop a critical understanding of current and emerging practices in the performance of popular music • To experience real-work practices within the music industry through collaborative projects, live briefs and input from industry professionals • To have the opportunity to undertake work-based or community-based learning • To understand financial frameworks, including sponsorship, government-based grants and self-employment, understand financial frameworks, including sponsorship, government-based grants and self-employment **Modules Covered:** **Year 1** -Music Theory in Practice -Performance 1 and 2 -Professional Roles and Practice -Practitioner Skills 1 and 2 -Skills for the Professional World **Year 2** -Musicology -Performance Project -Popular Music in Practice -Practitioner Skills 3 and 4 **Year 3** -Dissertation -Performance Showcase -Practitioner Skills 5 and 6 **Progression:** * Master’s level courses in audio production, performance or popular musicology * Employed as a performing musician, producer, live sound engineer, events management or freelancer practitioner * Teaching or teacher training in the relevant subject areas. **Entry Requirements:** * 64 UCAS points from a relevant Level 3 qualification or substantial relevant experience * GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or above or equivalent * HNC, HND, Foundation Degree or equivalent level will be accepted for direct entry onto Level 5 or 6 - International learners should also have an English Language IELTS score of 5.5 minimum. - Candidates will be interviewed and auditioned for entry. Those wishing to pursue a technical pathway will be asked to present a portfolio Students from non-traditional academic backgrounds will be considered at interview based on their audition and prior experience.
