Course Summary

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is a pre-undergraduate programme, designed to prepare international students for full-time undergraduate study at Ulster University. You will have the option of studying on one of two pathways: • Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM), or • Business Arts Humanities & Social Sciences (BHASS). You will study a series of academic modules, study skills, cultural studies and, if required, English language support modules. Successful completion of the IFP will guarantee you an unconditional offer on to one of over 130 degree courses. The IFP is taught at our Jordanstown campus where you will be registered as a full time student with complete access to on-campus accommodation and all of our campus facilities.

Standard Qualification Requirements


The International Foundation Programme is aimed at international students who need to extend their academic knowledge and study skills, if required, improve on their English language skills. We will normally make offers to students who have successfully completed 12 years of education and have achieved exit grades in at least 5 subjects (including Mathematics) equivalent to Grade C or above in GCSE. English language requirement You must also show competence in English language, as follows: If you are not from a majority English-speaking country (as defined by the UKVI) the minimum requirement is, an overall score of 5.0 in the UKVI Academic IELTS examination with no individual band score of less than 5.0; If you have an UKVI Academic IELTS of 5.0 with one band score at 4.5 we offer an intensive Pre-sessional English course to improve your level before starting the IFP; If you are a national of a majority English-speaking country (as defined by the UKVI) the minimum requirement is English language GCSE Grade C (or equivalent).
