The purpose of the BTEC Higher National Diploma in Public Services (Public Service Management) is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals, who will be able to meet the demands of employers in the public services sector and ensure that they are able to adapt a constantly to the changing local, national and global economy.
This programme is designed to equip students with academic, research, analytical and problem solving skills ideally suited for a range of careers in the public sector environment. The BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma is established and is recognised as contributing to the continuing personal development of workers in public sector by providing them with insight and an understanding into the diversity of roles within the public sector, different range of careers and different levels of roles within the environment.
The programme also facilitates achievement of widening participation by facilitating progression into or within employment in the public sector environment, either directly on achievement of the award or following further study to Level 6 to a top up degree level.
Graduates successfully completing the BTEC Higher National Diploma in Public Services will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the basic concepts of public services. They will be able to communicate accurately and appropriately and they will have the qualities needed for employment that requires some degree of personal responsibility. They will have developed a range of transferable skills to ensure effective team working, independent initiatives, organisational competence and problem-solving strategies. They will be adaptable and flexible in their approach to public services, show resilience under pressure, and meet challenging targets within a given resource.
Course Details - Modules
At level 4 ( Year1 ) students will study a total of eight units and develop a board knowledge and awareness of key aspects of public services through the core units.
The modules will consist of:-
Unit 1. Organisational Structures and Culture
Unit 2. Mental Health and Wellbeing
Unit 3. Equality, Diversity and Fair Treatment
Unit 4. Public Services in Contemporary Society (Pearson-set)
At level 5 (Year 2) students will student a further total of seven units and develop a board knowledge and awareness of key aspects of public services through the core units.
The modules will consist of:
Unit 29 Research Project (Pearson-set)
Unit 30 Reflective Professional Practice
