This award provides a dedicated progression route for the Film and TV production foundation degree within the network. The award is designed to place students at the heart of their own learning, enabling them to take the step beyond foundation degree study in becoming autonomous thinkers, learners and creative practitioners and taking ownership of their own practice. It is envisaged that students will produce a high quality focused show reel of work by the end of year as well as an ongoing professional relationship with practitioners in the industry as well as students at level 4 and 5. The students will be supported throughout by staff with extensive knowledge within their chosen specialism. This course will enable Film and TV practitioners to become critically reflective by developing skills of enquiry, analysis and synthesis, questioning and confronting the internal and external forces which provide the context for their work. To enable students to take a critical perspective on both current practice and likely future developments within Film and TV the course aims to develop highly employable practitioners with a creative vision and key attributes that include, responsiveness, flexibility and resilience and professionalism. Building upon their foundation degree experience, the award will offer a range of individual and collaborative experiences, enabling students to develop further their technical and craft skills towards industry readiness through intellectually challenging, industry facing creative assignments. By the mid-point in this final year of undergraduate study, students will have appropriate theoretical understanding; intellectual and technical skills together with the mature personal vision necessary to propose, develop and deliver a substantive, major piece of work within their creative discipline. It is expected that students will gain first-hand experience of submitting work to competitions, festivals and broadcasters as a way of validating their professionalism. Tutorial and one-to-one support (alongside promoted peer to peer discourse) shifts towards facilitation and critique in order to challenge students to be critically reflective and thus able to substantiate argument. This refinement and consolidation of higher level skills will bring together each student’s understanding of their own creative skills and technical ability and aims to foster the necessary confidence and self-management ability to sustain a career in the Film and TV industry at a variety of levels. Study and professionalism are supported and referenced against throughout, via engagement with a series of guest lecturers and workshops delivered by industry professionals.

Examples of current modules- Professional & Experimental practice In this unit students must be in a position to identify and define their specialism and underatke an activity to demonstrate and develop their level of professionalism. This could include responses to a brief set by a client, problem set by a specialist practitioner, work experience or undertaking additional externally validated qualifications (PADI, UAV's, BS7909, 17th edition) Professional context This unit provides students with the opportunity to reflect on their practice within a professional context. Students should develop an awareness of the link between practice and theory and identify strategies for progression into employment Industry practice This unit provides students with the opportunity to undertake a major body of practical work which will demonstrate their ability to operate at a professional standard in their chosen role. The evidence of their professionalism will be demonstrated through initiation, direction or participation in one or more industry standard productions. They should demonstrate application of the research, reflection and experimentation undertaken in semester one units. It is expected that the artefacts produced as part of this unit should be entered in regional/national competitions or festivals and/or broadcast.
