Course Summary

If you have always had an interest in business and enjoy finding out about the world of commerce and industry then this may be the course for you. This course has been designed around people working and provides an opportunity to explore multiple topics and units that are extremely important in today’s business environment. This includes business law, accounting, and leadership and management techniques. There is scheduled face to face contact hours in the evening with online material that will be available 24/7. This will allow you the flexibility to study around your commitments. This independent study will involve a range of online activities including pre-recorded webinars, podcasts and reading material. Through the HNC it will provide specialist business education over one year. You will gain a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required to progress into employment or continued progression onto the HND that will also run in the same delivery plan. This flexible learning model consists of the delivery of modules over a 7-week period. This will include a combination of online independent learning and face to face evening seminars. Per module: 3 hours face to face and approximately 5 hours independent study

Human Resource Management Learn how to appreciate and apply principles of effective Human Resource Management (HRM), discovering how people are the lifeblood of any organisation, how attraction, recruitment and retention of talented staff is at the core of all HRM activity, and how tools and techniques can be used to train, develop and extend employee skills for a business advantage Marketing Essentials Explore the principles of marketing, and develop a basic marketing plan that employs elements of the marketing mix to achieve results. Management Operations Understand the difference between the function of a manager and the role of a leader, examining the characteristics, behaviours and traits which support effective management and leadership. Business Law Enhance your understanding of business law and how it is applied to the running of a company, including its impact on business operations and decision-making. Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management Explore the definition and scope of entrepreneurship and learn what helps and hinders a business start-up, including the influence of national culture and economy, the personal characteristics of entrepreneurs, and the impact of personal situational factors like education and background. Management Accounting Focus on the fundamentals of management accounting that apply to the wider business environment and the organisations within it, exploring how financial data aids planning and the importance of monitoring and controlling finance. Managing a Successful Business Complete a project brief set by Pearson, with a changing theme and topic that will focus your abilities on exploring and examining a key aspect of a business.
