Course Summary

The course was devised in association with a variety of public, private and voluntary sectors, for example Police, Armed Forces, Local Government, Probation, Youth Offend Teams and the Civil Service. You will study a broad spectrum of issues relating to a variety of public and private services, and other sectors. Students are encouraged to arrange visits to the public and private services and invite guest speakers to present and share their views on their sectors. This course is designed to be broad. It encompasses a wide range of the public and private sectors and develops the skills and attributes that are fundamental in any public, voluntary or private service industry. You also have the unique opportunity to work alongside employers who have actually advised on the course structure. This allows you to network and form links with potential employers. Upon completion of this course students could progress onto top-up courses to gain a full Bachelor’s degree such as the BSc (Hons) Applied Social Science offered at Truro and Penwith College. The Foundation Degree is the pathway to many careers, such as: Local Government Border Agency Teaching Fire Service HM Coastguards Armed Forces Prison Service Youth Offending Probation Service
