Course Summary

Do you have an interest in biology, applied science or work in a science related career? Are you interested in studying locally to gain a higher-level qualification? If so this course could be right for you. This is an opportunity to gain a level 4 (HNC) or level 5 (HND) qualification at a TEF Gold, Ofsted Outstanding and Platinum Science Mark provider. Courses are typically taught over 2 days per week as full-time options or one day per week as a part-time option, providing an opportunity to maintain employment alongside study. The HND Applied Biology provides an opportunity for students to gain a wide experience of a range of biological topics combined with integral work-based learning. Units range from conservation through to microbiology and human health and nutrition with the opportunity to use work-based investigations to specialise in a chosen area of interest. Teaching is conducted in small groups led by experienced lecturers with a particular emphasis on the development of practical and employability skills. This programme will provide you with an understanding of theory and a range of skills to enable you to gain employment, or progress in your current role across a range of scientific fields. The programme emphasises a deeper professional practice and gives the opportunity for producing an appropriate portfolio that demonstrates a growing professional expertise. On completion of the level 5 HND learners may be able to progress to a relevant level 6 programme.
