Course Summary

The course is designed to allow students with relevant qualifications to progress to level 6 studies. Specifically,to provide progression for students on the Fdsc building Engineering and Project Management degree. It will also be open to students with relevant foundation degrees from other institutions. Following the 240 credit foundation degree students will have the option to continue onto Bsc (Hons) Building Engineering and Project Management (top up) which is a further 120 credits undertaken at SHU (Sheffield Hallam University). The Course will allow students to develop a broad range of both practical and academic skills related to the built environment from Project Management to Building Engineering. Many students who apply for the course will come from a Vocational qualification background in further and higher education and embrace the focus of employability.

Course Details – Assessment Method

Assessment is explicitly used to support learning through activities such as phrase tests, multiple choice tests and presentations. Tutorial exercises are used to support formative assessment of theories and principles, with verbal feedback in tutorials to support on-going learning prior to summative assessments. Students demonstrate they can apply their knowledge and understanding through a diet of coursework ,laboratory assignments, practical projects and examinations. Appropriate feedback (verbal/written) is provided for all coursework, laboratory assignments and projects.

Applicants will be required to have one of the following: FdSc Building Engineering and Project Management from SHU At least a cognate foundation degree in Construction Management,Civil Engineering or Building Surveying. HND Or equivalent qualification A Cognate HNc and approved APEL will also be considered. Applicants are also required to have both GCSE Grade C's in English and Maths. International Applicants require IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. Mature students may be accepted onto the course where they have proven experience within built environment and can demonstrate the required level of skill and academic ability within interview.
