Course Summary
**Optional year in industry**: The year in industry option will help you gain valuable work experience which will help you enhance your graduate employability prospects. During your placement you develop transferable skills such as communication, negotiation, teamwork, leadership, organisation, problem-solving, being able to work under pressure, self-reliance and commercial awareness. At the end of your work placement you return to complete your degree and prepare to enter employment with improved confidence.

**Course overview**: This integrated master’s course provides the knowledge and skills required to enter industries such as aerospace, robotics, automotive, manufacturing, medical, marine, rail, renewable energy, oil and gas, power and process. The University has exceptional links with local engineering companies allowing you to enhance your experience and employability through placements and professional mentoring schemes. You are taught by experienced staff who have a wealth of experience and industry expertise - many continue to support external organisations on collaborative research or innovative enterprising projects. You cover technical subject areas as well as developing management, leadership and entrepreneurship skills. You also complete practical activities including group-work and individual projects.
**After the course**: Graduate mechanical engineers can seek employment in almost every sector of industry, including: automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, marine, medical, rail, power, processing, chemical, oil and gas, and food production industries. Some examples of mechanical engineering graduates' first destinations are Cummins (design engineer), K Home International Ltd (piping design engineer), Rolls Royce (graduate engineer) and Ardmore Craig & Hiley Engineering (placement).
