**Course overview**: This BA (Hons) Graphic Design with Marketing course mixes the creative visual communication of marketing with marketing theory and marketing practice. It considers how you persuade through the visual practices of buying and selling, especially with modules about brand, theory of brand and visuals. This practical and creative course prepares you for an exciting career in graphic design and marketing – it combines graphic design, illustration, visual communication and marketing. You have the opportunity to integrate your creative graphic design and communication skills with an understanding of the marketing functions essential to a range of careers across the creative and design industries. It helps you develop into a successful multiskilled professional. The course structure is flexible and responsive. It allows you to become a creative graphic designer with an understanding of visual communication and marketing in branding, advertising and strategic direction to pursue a career in the creative industries, advertising and creative marketing. You have an opportunity to specialise from Year 2, based on your developing interests and aptitudes. You work in areas such as advertising, branding, web design, interactive media, editorial design and social media marketing. You develop your own distinctive portfolio of work underpinned by your knowledge and experience in marketing, buying and selling, visual communication brand strategy, digital strategies and enterprise. The course emphasis is on creative ideas and strategic solutions, combined with a high level of professional business knowledge, entrepreneurialism and a dedicated work ethic. At Teesside University you have your own studio from the start and are taught alongside BA (Hons) Graphic Design and Illustration students with pioneering modules with Teesside University Business School. **After the course**: Our graduates have excellent and varied career opportunities and go on to work in design consultancies, publishing houses, advertising and new media studios along with freelance opportunities and commissioned arts projects. Examples of destinations include Barker Advertising in New York, Caterpillar Books, Elmwood Design, Gardner Richardson, Great Fridays, JWT, KPMG, McCann Erickson, Pearl Fisher, Penguin Books, Radley Yeldar and SapientRazorfish. There is also the opportunity for postgraduate study.

Course Details – Assessment Method

You can use a full range of digital resources and workshop facilities with up-to-date equipment and processes, supporting the studio environment. The work produced is the work assessed – there are no exams. A key feature is producing design projects. You are assessed against carefully defined criteria while project-based assignments involve a critique which is a reflective process allowing for both staff and peer group appraisal. You receive written feedback to help you reflect and prepare for future modules.
