Course Summary

**Course overview**: Studying geography is studying human interaction with the physical world. This BSc (Hons) Geography course explores the full range of contemporary human, environmental and physical geography. You investigate the grand challenges facing the environment including climate change, urban development and biodiversity conservation. There are three core themes: biogeography and conservation, human geography and sustainable futures, natural process and climate change. A key benefit to studying geography at Teesside University is the learning linked to our location. Fieldwork is integral to our programme – Teesside is ideally placed to explore the geographical diversity of its region. Study the North Jurassic coast running from Saltburn to Scarborough, also known as Yorkshire’s Jurassic Park, and the unique North York Moors, a manmade moorland created by Neolithic man. The Yorkshire Dales – limestone upland and unique limestone pavements – is also within easy reach. You study our local urban environment, particularly the transformation from heavy industry in Teesside and the north, built on the steel industry, and the resulting urban challenges of land use and employment. All these locations provide opportunities to gain valuable practical experience. In the final year you have the option to take part in an overseas field trip. **After the course**: Career opportunities include environmental management and policy, landscape assessment and management, teaching, tourism and heritage management and town and transport planning.
