Standard Qualification Requirements
Level 3 (QCF) achievement or equivalent in Counselling. Prospective students who have had a minimum of two years’ counselling experience within a counselling agency, supported by agency/work-based or subject-specific training and mentoring will be considered as suitable candidates for the Foundation Degree in Counselling following a successful interview.
It is a requirement of the course that you complete 100 practice hours in a supervised placement setting by the end of the second year of the Foundation Degree. You are also required to undertake 20 hours of personal therapy during the course (i.e. 10 hours for each year of the course), which will cost approximately £30 per session.
Due to the nature of the programme you will need to provide written references from two sources to demonstrate your appropriateness to undertake professional counselling training and your ability to cope with the academic requirements. You will be asked to declare any criminal convictions and be aware that DBS enhanced checks for regulated activity (formerly CRB checks) will be carried out prior to you undertaking clinical practice.
Suitable candidates will be selected and invited for interview. The interview process will evaluate your suitability for the programme.
